Inter-District Transfer Requests

Student Services is NOW accepting Inter-District transfer requests for the 2025-26 school year.

What is an Inter-District Release Permit?
It’s permission to leave an SGUSD school to attend a school in another district. District approval is required. IMPORTANT: you must first get a release from your home district before applying.

Please read before requesting inter-district transfer:
   Interdistrict BP 5117

INCOMING (ACCEPT) INTO SGUSD REQUESTS (2025-26)
Students living outside SGUSD boundaries who want to attend an SGUSD school

Parents/legal guardians requesting an Inter-District Transfer into the San Gabriel Unified School District must first obtain a signed release from their district of residence. Once the release is granted, an online Inter-district transfer application must be completed by the parent/legal guardian.  Student Services will review space availability in the requested school and/or program and notify families of the application status. The link to apply for an Inter-district transfer into SGUSD can be found at this link.

OUTGOING (RELEASE) REQUESTS to Attend Another District (2025-26)
Parents/legal guardians requesting an Inter-District Transfer to a school outside the District must first obtain a release from the San Gabriel Unified School District

If you need additional lines to explain your reasons for requesting the transfer, please attach any documents to the online application. If your student is currently attending the school you are requesting, please provide proof of enrollment, current report card or attendance report.

QUESTIONS may be directed via email to Jodie Trinh.

TRANSFER POLICY AND DOCUMENTATION

Please review SGUSD's Inter District Transfer Policy and the reasons we may approve a release, along with the required documents for each reason to the application.

If you're requesting an Inter-District transfer for childcare reasons, please submit the Childcare Affidavit to the permit release application. Childcare providers must be licensed, as required by SGUSD Board Policy. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
