LA County Spelling Bee

Fifth grader Ryan Yan represented San Gabriel Unified School District at the 12th Annual Los Angeles County Elementary Spelling Bee on March 20th after winning the 4th and 5th grade competition at Coolidge. He competed with passion and pride against 28 contestants from schools throughout Los Angeles County. He correctly spelled words in 14 rounds such as sanguine, conglomerate, curtailment, equanimity, and facetious. However, he was eliminated in the 15th round with the word “vinaceous.”

We are proud that he took 3rd place overall in the entire Los Angeles County. Last year, he placed 2nd, so he was a back to back top 3 finisher at the County competition. Jefferson MS, watch out for this stellar speller.
