Why Dual Language Immersion?
Dual Language Immersion programs equip students with the future-ready skills they need to thrive in college, career, and an increasingly interconnected world.
Students in dual language immersion programs develop as bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural learners who excel academically and navigate cultural contexts with confidence. Learning multiple languages and engaging with diverse cultures nurtures a deep sense of curiosity and wonder, strengthens emotional intelligence, and builds the capacity to understand multiple perspectives skills essential for active, compassionate participation in a global society.
Dual Language Immersion is also deeply aligned with SGUSD’s Portrait of a Graduate. The program intentionally cultivates the six competencies that define our vision for student success: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, character, and citizenship. Through multilingual learning experiences, students practice these human skills daily communicating effectively across languages, collaborating with diverse peers, solving complex problems, and developing empathy and global awareness. These competencies empower SGUSD graduates to navigate a rapidly changing world with confidence, adaptability, and purpose.
